Glacier Girl was one of six P-38 fighters and two B-17s that were forced to land on a glacier in Greenland due to bad weather on 15 July 1942. All crew members of the P-38 squadron were rescued, and there until 1992 remained all P-38s. It was then that a monumental effort was made to raise from nearly 300 feet below the ice surface one single P-38, which became known as Glacier Girl. Glacier Girl was raised one piece at a time from a cavern created by the expedition team and flew again after restoration. Much is available online about this incredible story.
The creators of the P-38 software for X-Plane 11 have done a brilliant job. While assigning controls to the P-38, I was hoping to see a bomb fall to the ramp after assigning that weapon. The result left no doubt. All the guns operate as do the bomb rack releases. The P-38 is a beast, but is well behaved in all flight maneuvers.
